Gezer09 Holds On Tight For A Dramatic 5:4 Victory Over Phoenix, Earning A 1:0 Series Lead
Phoenix made a late push in the top of the 7th inning loading the bases with 1 out, but Michael Marunov allowed only 1 run to come in stranding two Purple runners in scoring position giving Gezer09 a 5:4 win and a 1:0 series lead in the Men’s Fastpitch Grand Finals. Phoenix scored the first run of the night after Sam Cogan drove in Roye Shelem on a sacrifice fly but the Carrots responded immediately grabbing the lead on a wild pitch by Seth Ross that brought Assaf Raphaeli, a single by Gil Siegel scored Michael Marunov, and Yoav Eliyahu added to the advantage with a 2 RBI single in the second inning.
Brian Aron’s unit minimized the margin to 1 in the top of the fifth as Cogan and Yonatan Aron brought home Raanan Goldberg & Shelem, 4:3 Gezer09. Raphaeli came clutch for the Oranges adding an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th singling to left field driving in Benny Ruggill.
Michael Marunov earned the victory on the rubber for Gezer09. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out nine.
Seth Ross took the loss for Phoenix. Ross went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out six.
Assaf Raphaeli went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Gezer09 in hits.
Phoenix was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Alon Paz made the most plays with seven.
