Men’s Weekly Recap: Misgav powers through for a double win week

Gezer09 stays perfect after a thriller against Cerveceros as the northern squad blasted 50 runs over the week, going up in the standings.

With Israel celebrating its 73rd independence day (Happy Birthday! ūü•≥), the fourth week of games featured some fascinating outcomes as the teams enter the first round’s midway point. Here are the game recaps:

Gezer09 grab the lead in the third to stay perfect on the season

Despite capturing an early 6-2 lead in the first inning, Cerveceros blew the 4 point margin in the third inning as Naor Benisti hit an RBI triple on a 3-2 count and later came in to score the leading run on a wild pitch.

From that point on, the Israeli Fastpitch League ERA leader Michael Marunov took control, pitching 3 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 unearned run while striking out 6. With the win, the Carrots remain in first place, holding a 4:0 record as Cerveceros drop to 2:2 on the season.

Team Misgav erupted for 11 runs in the bottom half of the first inning, which led to a slugfest by Yaniv Rosenfeld’s squad as¬†Ben Kantor¬†was undeniable on Monday, going 5 for 5, driving in a career-high 9 runs via 2 home runs, a triple and two singles. The 2019 champions had a total of 23 hits, 5 of them were round-trippers. On the other end, the southern unit who made the long trip north to Maor had a disappointing night executing 7 errors.¬†

The positive note is the successful aggressiveness on the base paths swiping 5 bags (Oshriel Brownlee and Yegal Brownlee each stole 2 bases). Dan Winnik got the start for Team Misgav, allowed three hits and two runs over two innings, striking out four. Shani Hadar came in relief, pitching 2 innings allowing a hit, 2 earned runs, 3 free passes while striking out 3 Judeans.

The contest featured a pitching duel between Seth Ross and Nadav Divone, who each pitched 3 scoreless frames. Phoenix struck first in the top of the fourth, after a two-out RBI single by Netanel Levinson, who drove in Ross, and David Aron continued the rally knocking in two after a single to center field. 

Sox reduced the deficit in the bottom of the fourth and fifth before taking advantage of a crucial error in the sixth, which led to the game-tying RBI single by Yoni Schwartz.

Team Misgav 9 run first inning sets the tone in victory over Vets

Team Misgav’s big bats came through once again on Friday as two-run home runs by¬†David Kamen, and¬†Ivri Margolin¬†in the bottom of the first highlighted a 9 run frame. Team Misgav tallied 17 hits on the day, 5 players had multiple hits as¬†Yaniv Rosenfeld,¬†Ohad Ban, and Kamen each had 3 RBI’s. In his debut,¬†Shachar Ben Yehuda¬†added another two-run home run in the third inning. Vets collected eight hits.¬†Gefen Osishkin,¬†Inbar Reemy, and¬†Micha Gordon¬†all managed multiple hits for Vets as¬†Judah Rosenthal¬†drove in the team’s only 2 RBI’s.

Rosenfeld earned the victory for Team Misgav. The pitcher went four innings, allowing three runs on eight hits, striking out two, and walking one. Noam Zwilling took the loss for the Vets, pitching his first inning of the season, allowing nine hits and nine runs. Reemy came in relief, allowing 8 hits and 11 runs (2 ER) in two innings of work.
